S. Kanetzky Engineering LLC celebrates 20 successful years
On November 1, 1996, Steve L. Kanetzky, P.E. officially opened the doors of S. Kanetzky Engineering, LLC. “I can remember sitting at my desk on that first Monday morning and wondering what I was going to do for that day.”
At around 8:15 am, Steve Contreras (Mr. C), the current Facilities Director for Tracor, called. Tracor had recently purchased a facility in Lansdale, Pennsylvania. Mr. C asked me to complete a due diligence survey and report for the electrical systems of the 400,000+ SF facility. That was the beginning of S. Kanetzky Engineering, LLC (SKE).
One of our most notable projects was the Network Operations Center (NOC) for Telecom Egypt in Cairo. “In October of 2002, I received an email from General Dynamics. The email defined a project, and asked me if I was interested. I remember thinking……another junk email! A month later, I was on a flight to Cairo.” The $55M project was funded by US AID: General Dynamics was the Construction Manager and Hewlett Packard was the Prime Contractor. The project consisted of surveying the facilities electrical systems, developing a corrective action plan, and then serving as the Project Manager - overseeing the design-build repair phase. We were successful in meeting all original project specifications, and helped HP turn the project over the Telecom Egypt.
Since then, we have expanded our services to include Project Management. For Presidio ISD, SKE designed and managed over eighteen new and renovation MEP projects ranging from $250,000 to $3M.
Additionally, SKE has ventured into commercial property development. Just this year we completed the 120,000 SF Mesa Oaks Professional Center, in which SKE has relocated his office.
At the end of the day, it’s all about people we’ve met who have become good friends and great clients. We are grateful for the continued business.
2016 Presidio ISD T-STEM Engineering Camp
In June, 2016, S. Kanetzky Engineering, LLC (SKE) partnered with Presidio and Marathon ISDs to conduct the fifth annual T-STEM engineering camp. SKE encourages participants to explore opportunities in science and engineering careers by exposing them to college visits, and guest speakers. In addition, students were be able to explore actual facilities, companies, research centers, and interact with professionals in various scientific fields.
SKE also provided students with the opportunity to tour University of Texas at Austin, University of Texas at San Antonio, Texas A&M Corpus Christi, and Texas State University campuses. At each university, the students heard from the leaders of the school’s engineering programs.
We hope that this program acts as a catalyst for these students to become lifelong learners and to enjoy careers in the fields of science and engineering.
SKE wins at Annual Fishing Tournament
SKE was a Red Fish Sponsor at the 23rd Annual Fishing Break Tournament benefiting the Austin Firefighters Relief and Outreach Fund. Several SKE employees (Enrique Espinoza, Donald Minnis, Andy Hall and his wife, Karen Hall) were on the best overall winning boat “Hooked on Red.” The team also won 1st place for catching the biggest fish in the Black Drum Pro-Am contest and 2nd place for the Red Fish Pro-Am
It was a great time in Port Aransas and all for a great cause. We hope to see you there next year.
The Austin Firefighters Relief Fund helps firefighters and other public safety employees along with their families and residents of the greater Austin area who have suffered from a catastrophe or a major injury and/or illness.
