SKE can provide mechanical engineering design for a variety of project types. The mechanical engineering staff can perform calculations for HVAC design and analysis using sophisticated in-house computer software to complete a 24- hour dynamic load calculation analysis for buildings. Services and capabilities including the following:
- HVAC systems design.
- Chilled water and direct expansion cooling systems.
- Air-cooled and water-cooled equipment.
- Variable air volume and constant air volume air distribution.
- Centralized and decentralized air distribution.
- Hot water, electric and gas heating systems.
- Heat reclamation systems
- Building analysis that accounts for the full range of the impact of solar loads (cooling load temperature differences, maximum solar heat gain factors and glass load factors) and internal operating load profiles.
- Energy analysis and HVAC systems payback analysis.Lightning protection system design.
- Individual buildings are modeled such that the impact of orientation on the site can be considered to maximize building envelope efficiency.
- The analysis takes into account the unique weather conditions found in the project locale through the use of a 30-year statistical climatic database obtained from the U.S. Weather Service.
- The results of the load calculation are extended in the energy analysis by modeling a number of possible HVAC systems to determine the relative utility operating costs using the full and part load operating efficiencies of each.
- Economic analysis (either life cycle costing or simple payback) to determine the most cost effective system.
